Thoothukudi Poricha Parotta located in Mogappair east has a small ambience with no allotted bike/car parking plus there aren’t any seats available mostly this can be like a “mobile restaurant” but the food here is excellent, and they are growing slowly, but many avoid this place mainly due to their ambience if they can get enough resources to start this as a bigger restaurant they will surely grow in the upcoming years.
Parotta is one of the most common and highly consumed food in Tamil Nadu and especially here in Chennai people consume parotta on a regular basis. There are varieties of Parotta like normal parotta, square shaped parotta (known as veechu parotta), bun parotta, poricha parotta etc. But here in Chennai only few places serve the authentic Poricha parotta which is made entirely different and the taste is much more delicious and mouth watering than the normal parotta.
Mogappair is known for varieties of food but it was missing something unique and that’s when this place filled the gap. In Chennai there are around 3-4 places in total which serves poricha parotta because this is an iconic dish of Thoothukudi and it might be common there but here in Chennai it is kinda rare to spot a good place for poricha parotta.
The main reason behind the name of “poricha parotta” is that the parotta is first pre-heated in the pan then fried up in oil to give a crispy flavour and once fried they are done the master himself will prepare dish by cutting/separating the parotta into various pieces and adding the gravy above it. The thickness of the batter is less compared to that of normal parotta.
Chicken Poricha Parotta Set – ₹100 rupees
The Chicken parotta set comes with 2 pieces of parotta in it with some chicken leg piece & chicken gravy with it and the taste is so delicious as it feels like having crispy dosa but it turns out to be parotta which is deep-fried and having onion raitha for side dish makes it an even more good. The quantity might seem small but overall it was filling and can be consumed for dinner as well. If this seems expensive I’d suggest you to try their normal gravy set – ₹55 rupees and the preparation is same as well but in this only the normal gravy is added.
Overall this place is recommended if you want to try different varieties of parotta and for the price of ₹55 rupees you get 2 pieces of parotta which might seem expensive but to be frank you don’t get this dish often anywhere in Chennai and also the quality here is good as a single family runs this place so for the price point it is totally worth the try
